How to Choose Air Purifier for COPD
We all know the significance of clean air for every human. However, it’s far more important for people with COPD. The most common allergens, such as pollen, mold, and dust can irritate the lining of the lungs that can lead to symptom flares in COPD. An air purifier is one of the most ultimate solutions for people with COPD.
Air Purifiers are available in different types in the marketplace; it’s better to select the right type that can successfully meet your requirements. This article will discuss the most critical buying factors for buying an air purifier for COPD patients.
Filter Type: The most important feature to consider while buying an air purifier is the filter type. There are different types of filters available when it comes to choosing an air purifier. However, we will recommend you choose the HEPA filters. HEPA filters are the most efficient type of filters that offer incredible filtration capability. Remember, HEPA filters can specifically target the smallest particles harmful to COPD patients, such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), allergens, chemicals, and many others.
Activated Carbon: Those particular air purifiers that contain activated carbon provide an extra layer of defence against harmful chemicals. These types of air purifiers are extremely beneficial for people with COPD. As a result of using an air purifier equipped with activated carbon, the air quality in the room is significantly improved, which helps COPD patients.
Noise Levels: COPD patients are often very sensitive when it comes to sleep; you should choose those specific models that produce minimal noise. Its advised to carefully test the noise levels before purchasing an air purifier from the market.
1. IQAir HealthPro Plus –Overall, Best Air Purifier for COPD in 2022
IQAir HealthPro Plus offers the best air filters for allergies, smokers (secondhand smoke), including medical grade HyperHEPA filters for COPD symptoms. This air purifier for large spaces can clean 1125 square feet of the area every 12 minutes in one hour. Moreover, it is ultra-quiet (22 decibels at low fan speed) and can be used in bedrooms or offices. Let’s move forward to the IQAir HealthPro reviews.
Deltakw reviewed IQAir HealthPro Plus on Amazon and shared experience as follows,
This is a wonderful air purifier. I’ve had it running constantly since I received it a couple of weeks ago. It started making a big difference in a couple of days. My allergy symptoms have virtually disappeared (indoors at least). It is obviously removing the pollen, dust and mold from the air in my home. I can see the difference with the dust, and I can feel the difference with the other allergens. The gas/odor filter also works very well. A neighbor’s cooking smells are often unpleasant and strong — this filter made them disappear. The unit is very quiet on the middle and lower speeds, and not bad on the higher speeds. This Swiss-made air purifier appears to be very well made. The materials and construction appear to be high quality. It is an expensive item, but if you live in a region where there is year round pollen, dust and mold, and you are allergic to it all, this is definitely worth the investment. But BEWARE: if you do not purchase this item directly from the manufacturer, or if you select a seller on the Amazon site that is not an authorized dealer, your unit will have no warranty at all. The seller I selected when I bought this unit on Amazon was an Authoruzed dealer, but somewhere along the way, my unit was sold by a different seller that was not even on the Amazon list of sellers. That dealer was not authorized by IQAir. I resolved the issue after speaking with an IQAir rep, who was very professional and attentive. She authorized their basic 1-year limited warranty, but could not offer me their free upgrade to a 10-year warranty. I accepted this offer so I have one year of coverage on this expensive machine, and I did not have to go through the hassle of returning the unit to Amazon, getting a refund, finding another (authorized) seller, and ordering another machine. This air purifier is absolutely worth the investment, but at that price, there should be a warranty. Avoid this problem by either buying direct from the manufacturer or making sure before you buy on Amazon that the seller you select is the one who is your actual seller, and that seller is an authorized dealer. I personally prefer to shop using Amazon Prime. I got my unit at the promised time, very well packaged, and in perfect condition. The seller, when I contacted them by email, was very helpful, but unfortunately was not an authorized dealer. They offered to provide a warranty themselves, but I wanted my warranty directly from the manufacturer. If you prefer, as I did, to buy on Amazon, I think you can go to the IQAir website to find out which Amazon sellers are authorized dealer. I have suggested to Amazon that they make sure someone doesn’t switch sellers on you, and that they make it very clear that you are, or are not, buying from an authorized dealer, and the impact that can have on your warranty.
